How to Design a Mosaic Tile Table
You have been to a garage sale and spied an old table. You see in your mind's eye this table becoming a masterpiece that you can create with just a little bit of imagination and work. Turn that table into a Mosaic tile table and be the envy of your friends. Here is how you do it:
Things You'll Need
- Old unfinished rectangular or square wood table
- Tiles of your choosing in the colors that you want.
- Ten pieces considering your dimensions and color choices, these will be broken to accomplish the mosaic look.
- Tile glue or strong adhesive, grout, 1/2 inch quater round molding for edges, small saw or miter box, wood glue, 1 inch brads, sandpaper, sponge, wood putty, putty knife, primer, interior or exterior paint (1 pint) and paintbrush

Starting your table

Purchase or salvage an old table from a garage sale.

Thoroughly wash and dry the table. Lightly sand the entire table.

Cut the molding with 45 degree mitered corners to surround the top of the table. Assure that it is flush at the outer edges

Glue the molding to the top of the table with wood glue, then nail with brads

Fill the cracks with the putty and let it dry. After it has dried completely sand the putty until it is smooth and lays flat against the table top

Break your 4 inch tiles into pieces, that the pieces and arrange them on the table in the design that you have created, Glue them into place

Spread the grout between the tiles after the glue has completely dried. Use your putty knife to assure that it is evenly spread out over the tiles.

Allow the grout to dry, when dried, wipe the haze from the top with a sponge and some cold water.
Finishing the table

Clean the top of the table to assure that there is not any rough edges, run your hands across the top it should feel smooth to the touch

Prime the wood surfaces

Paint the wood surfaces the color that you want.

Tips & Warnings
Mosaic tiled tables tops can turn an old table into a great indoor or outdoor server, tiles are easily obtained at your local hardware store and only run around a dime each, so you can choose from a whole array of colors and designs.
Let the glue dry thoroughly before proceeding to the other steps.
