Things You'll Need:
- Colored felt pieces
- Photos
- Scissors
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Christmas tree ornament hangers
-
Step 1
Gather the tools and materials. You need two pieces of felt for each photo frame but they don't need to be the same color.
-
Step 2
Select the photos you plan to sew into the frames. Crop the photos to a small size. Two inches by three inches is big enough. If you don't want to cut the original photo, get copies made to sew into the felt frames.
-
Step 3
Cut the back piece of the frame out of the felt. Make it 1/2-inch longer and wider than the photo. Cut the top piece the same size. Use sharp scissors to cut out the center of the photo frame. Make the frame about 3/4-inch wide.
-
Step 4
Put the photo on top of the back piece of felt. Lay the frame piece on top.
-
Step 5
Set the sewing machine to a zigzag or decorative stitch. Thread it with contrasting thread if you wish.
-
Step 6
Sew around the felt frame. Try not to catch the photo in the stitches. When you get to the corner, leave your needle in the felt, raise the presser foot, pivot the fabric 45 degrees and lower the presser foot. Continue this process at each of the three remaining corners.
-
Step 7
Attach a Christmas tree ornament hanger to the top center of the felt photo frame. The picture is now ready to hang on your tree.
