How to Make an Adult Cabbage Patch Costume

The chubby cheeks, upturned nose and mop of yarn hair, combined with the memories of the 80's frenzy over the little dolls, makes the Cabbage Patch Kid a hilarious costume for an adult. Recreate the Cabbage Patch look for a cool retro costume.

Instructions

1. Locate clothing that is an adult size, but appears childlike. Overalls and a striped shirt are good options for men, and a baby doll dress or anything lacy works for women. Add childlike touches, such as rainbow or flower appliques or bows for the hair.

2. Buy or make a yarn wig. Party or Halloween stores sometimes carry yarn wigs for rag-doll costumes, or you can make your own (See the related eHow, "How to Make a Rag Doll Wig.") Many Cabbage Patch dolls had short pigtails with bows, so use elastics and ribbons to recreate that look.

3. Draw the signature Cabbage Patch Kid dimples on your cheeks. Add freckles across the bridge of your nose if you like. Smile with your cheeks raised and open your eyes wide. Cabbage Patch dolls have round eyes and tight little smiles. Remain in character as much as possible.

4. Carry a sign advertising a pizza joint, or proclaiming that you "will work for food." This helps promote the notion that an adult Cabbage Patch Kid will have issues from his or her history as a child star. This is the comic touch for your character costume. If you want to do a costume with even darker humor, you can have your clothing labeled as from a psych ward or a prison, indicating that your Cabbage Patch character grew up to have serious problems.
