No Halloween party is complete without a little fake blood. Whether drizzled across a cake, or splattered against a wall to intensify a haunted house, fake blood will definitely have the neighbors impressed. Here's how to add color to fake blood from the comfort of your very own home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Glass jar (cleaned)
  • Corn syrup
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  1. Step 1

Pour corn syrup into your cleaned glass jar. Fake blood for costumes is different from fake blood for a haunted house or props. Corn syrup has a great way of sticking to whatever substance you need it to without running all over your house. Pour about 6 oz. into your jar.

  2. Step 2

Add 3 drops of red food coloring to your corn syrup. Remember you can always make your color brighter or darker. So it's best to start with just a few drops and see how your color is progressing.

  3. Step 3

Mix the red food coloring into the corn syrup by turning the jar end over end in a slow methodical process.

  4. Step 4

Allow the fake blood mixture to settle so you can gauge the color of your fake blood.

  5. Step 5

Darken your fake blood by adding 1 drop of blue food coloring to the fake blood mixture. This will give it a more authentic hue. Again, 1 drop at a time will allow you to really hone the color. Mix end over end as you did before.

  6. Step 6

Repeat this process slowly adding 1 drop of red and 1 drop of blue, and then mixing until you are happy with the color. Now go splatter your fake blood all over your "haunted house."

Tips & Warnings
  • When it comes to setting up the Halloween party, get the kids involved. They'll love setting up all of the ghoulish components of the party.
  • Drizzle the fake blood on a green apple for a Halloween treat. This will be healthier than a candy or caramel apple, but still have that frightening appeal.
  • If you wish to thin your fake blood, simply add water.
