Things You'll Need:
- 2 yards of fabric (quilter’s cotton or flannel)
- 2 yards of ¼-inch elastic
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Straight pins
- Safety pins
- Iron
- Ironing board
-
Step 1
Wash and dry the fabric on a hot cycle to pre-shrink the fabric.
-
Step 2
Cut the fabric into a 43-by-66 inch rectangle.
-
Step 3
Cut an 8-by-8 inch square from each corner of the fabric.
-
Step 4
Pin the two 8-inch lengths of the first sheet corner to each other with the rights sides of the fabric together. Stitch a ½-inch seam from the outer edge to the inner point. Repeat for the other three corners of the sheet.
-
Step 5
Press each corner seam open with a hot iron.
-
Step 6
Fold the bottom edge of the sheet down by ¼ inch then fold it down by ¼ inch again. Stitch along the folded edge to create a casing for the elastic. Be sure to leave a ¾-inch opening when sewing the casing so you have a place to thread the elastic.
-
Step 7
Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic then thread the elastic through the casing. Pin each end to the sheet using safety pins.
-
Step 8
Check the fit of your sheet by putting it on the crib mattress then cinching the elastic to the desired tightness.
-
Step 9
Remove the safety pins then sew the ends of the tightened elastic together and tuck into the casing.
-
Step 10
Stitch the hole in the casing closed.
