How to Tie a Hangman's Knot in Macramé

It is the art of using knots to make everything from woven paintings to potholders. Here is how to tie a hangman's knot, which is a common Macramé knot.

Hold your rope vertically with both ends in one hand so that you have formed a loop.

Grab the ends several inches down and allow the left side to fall away. You have thus created a pivot where the loop is intact but now smaller, as well as you have additional slack rope.

Wrap the "slack rope" around the top of the loop (where two side of the rope touch each other). Continue to wrap until you are out of slack.

Thread the end of the rope that you've been wrapping around through the small loop you've created at the top of the hangman's knot.

Pull until you are satisfied with the result (meaning in your piece of macramé art work, you'll decide how much of a loop you want, or how tight you'll want something cinched).
