Wedding hair accessories can add subtle touches to your look while holding your hairstyle in place. With the right hair accessories, you can look and feel beautiful when all eyes are on you. If you just follow a few simple steps, you will buy the kinds of wedding hair accessories that turn heads as you walk down the aisle.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Consider the time of day when the wedding will take place. Accessories that have lots of "bling" or sparkle are best reserved for afternoon or evening ceremonies.
Step2
Buy hair accessories that help define your wedding style. You can go for formal, funky, vintage, romantic or fun. Even if you have already chosen a gown, your hair accessories can drastically change your overall look.
Step3
Browse through bridal pictures in magazines and on the Internet when you are preparing to buy accessories. This is an easy way to get some great ideas.
Step4
Decide how you will style your hair for your wedding day. Wearing your hair long and loose, in a smooth bun or piled into an updo will partially determine what type of accessory or accessories you will need to buy. For example, the Wedding Channel offers excellent tips for matching veils with the best hairstyles (see Resources below).
Step5
Consider the wide variety of accessories before you buy. There are many kinds, such as tiaras, combs, clips, pins, ponytail holders, barrettes and headbands. If you would like to be able to wear the accessory after your wedding day, opt for a subtle piece, such as a barrette or pin.
Step6
Know the style of your gown before you buy an accessory. You may not want pins with stars if your gown has a floral pattern, for example.
Step7
Accentuate the details of your gown with the accessory you buy. If your dress is encrusted with tiny pearls, buy accessories that also feature pearls. If your gown is decorated with crystals, buy a crystal comb or tiara.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask your mother or another relative if there is a hair accessory you can wear as "something borrowed." Some heirloom pieces are beautiful additions to a more classic look, and your relative will most likely be happy and even honored to loan it to you.
  • Try to match the sparkle in your accessories to the amount of sparkle in your gown. You do not want your hair accessory to overpower your ensemble.
  • Although often overlooked, hair supplies and accessories are things that need to be budgeted. Know how much you are able and willing to spend to avoid going over budget.
