How to Make Your Own Sew-In Labels
People who sew clothes often want a customized label to sew into the garment, making it look like a real designer piece. You can pick up standard sew-in labels at most craft/sewing stores, but to get custom labels you have to pay big bucks and order a lot of labels. With the help of computer software and transfer paper, you can make your own labels
- Difficulty:
- Moderately Easy
Instructions

1
Design your label on a computer graphics program. Once completed, you will need to flip the design so that it is reversed for the transfer paper.
-
2
Measure the design and select ribbon that is slightly wider than your design.
-
3
Print out a sample of your logo on plain paper to test first. Cut it out and lay it on the ribbon for sizing and to make sure it's exactly what you want. If everything looks good, fill your page full of copies of the label, leaving plenty of space around each label, and print out on your transfer paper.
-
4
Cut the individual labels off the transfer sheet. Leave plenty of empty space on either side so that you don’t cut off any of your logo.
-
5
Press ribbon flat. Place transfer over the center of the ribbon and press on, following instructions provided with transfer paper. Allow to cool.
-
6
Remove backing. Ribbon labels are now ready to sew where desired.

7/16/08 This is a great idea, but I didn't have the program to flip the image for a transfer. I did have, however, some fabric to run through my printer. I printed my labels on the fabric, cut them apart, and sewed them into some garments I had made. Not quite as soft as the ribbons, but one step less in the process. Thanks for sharing. -
