How to Airbrush Nails

Most women love to have their nails done. However, going to a nail salon can get quite expensive. By learning to airbrush nails on your own, you can save money--and maybe even make some money on the side.

Things You'll Need:

• Nail stencil
• Acetone
• Nail polish (two colors)
• Airbrush gun
• Topcoat nail varnish

1. Buy a nail stencil from a beauty supply store. These stores have lots of stencils, from simple designs to elaborate ones. Choose a simple design such as a plain line when you first airbrush nails.

2. Use acetone nail polish remover and wash your hands thoroughly to remove any oil or old polish from your nails. If your nails aren't clean, the airbrush design won't last as long.

3. Apply a basecoat to your nails. After the basecoat has dried, apply the color you've chosen for the background.

4. Position the stencil on top of your nail in the position that you want the design. Use an airbrush gun to paint over the stencil with the color you've chosen for the design. Clean up any over spray with acetone nail polish remover.

5. Brush on a long-lasting topcoat and let your nails dry thoroughly before touching anything. Using a nail dryer helps speed up this process.

Tips & Warnings

• After you get used to airbrushing simple designs, experiment with more elaborate stencils. You can also overlap layers for a stunning effect.
• Synthetic hands or fingers are available at beauty supply stores. You can practice on one of these before you attempt to airbrush real nails.
