How to Build a Ping Pong Table

Ping pong is an entertaining and fun game also called table tennis. A ping pong table does not have to be an expensive purchase. Build your own ping pong table to cut down the price dramatically. The few hours it takes to make the table are worth the hours of endless ping pong actions that is sure to follow.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 4-by-8 foot MDF board, 1 inch thick
  • 2 cans green paint
  • 2 rolls white electrical tape
  • Paint brushes
  • Sander
  • 1 ping pong net

    Make the Frame

  1. Step 1

    Make a rectangle with two 4-foot boards and two 8-foot boards. Miter cut the corners to fit them together.

  2. Step 2

    Drill a leader hole in each corner. Screw the corners together.

  3. Step 3

    Measure 2 feet into the frame from both sides. Attach a 3-foot board to the frame to brace the table.

  4. Step 4

    Slide the 3-foot 2-by-4s into each corner. The top needs to be flush with the top of the frame.

  5. Step 5

    Attach the legs to the corners with 2 screws. One needs to be secured on each side.

  6. Make the Top of the Table

  7. Step 1

    Sand the MDF board to remove any rough spots.

  8. Step 2

    Paint the board green. Paint two coats and allow it to dry overnight.

  9. Step 3

    Apply the ping pong board lines with the electrical tape. Outline the edges of the board as well. Measure the board to find its middle. Tape the board across the middle.

  10. Step 4

    Lay the table top onto the frame. Screw the top into the legs and supports of the table.

  11. Step 5

    Attach the ping pong net to the center of the board by securing the clamps at the center line on either side of the table top.
