If you want to make a Transformers Halloween costume but just aren't sure where to start, look no further. As you can imagine, the construction of this costume takes some time, approximately 2 weeks, depending on the detail and effort you put into it. You need lots of patience, cardboard and paint to build this robot in disguise.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather lots of cardboard and decide which Transformers character you want to make. The characters that are boxier are easier to make. Do a search online for pictures to have as a reference of your character.

  2. Step 2

Use foam to create the base for the head. Floral foam works especially well. Out of cardboard, make the appropriate shape for your transformer's head and place on top of the Styrofoam or foam. Use colored transparent paper to cover the holes for the eyes.

  3. Step 3

Spray paint plastic plates with chrome to make rims for the wheels that go on your arms if your Transformers character has wheels.

  4. Step 4

Cut out the windows in the main section of the costume. Spray paint everything the appropriate color and allow to dry. Take black construction paper and place inside plastic sheet protectors. Tape to the inside of the window holes using packaging tape.

  5. Step 5

Use a piece of cardstock to make a stencil of the Autobot logo. Use spray paint to add the logo to the costume.

  6. Step 6

Use color-coordinating gloves for your hands. For detail, add small pieces of cardboard with joints to look like robot hands.

  7. Step 7

Use thicker cardboard for your feet. Make feet small enough to prevent tripping.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there are pieces of costume that you're worried aren't sturdy enough, add extra layers of cardboard to make it more durable.
  • Use thinner pieces around the head and arms for comfort and easy maneuvering.
  • Stop frequently to test pieces to insure they fit you, fit with the rest of the costume and that you can actually move with it on.
  • Make sure your vision and hearing are not impaired by your costume. This is dangerous and can make you miss out on a lot of the fun around you.
