How to Knit Two Color Lattice Pattern

Now that you have mastered the basics of knitting and purling it's time to move up to something a little more intricate. The lattice pattern is a stitch that can bring delicate detail and dimension to your work. One color of yarn is used as a base while the other "lays" over the work in a lattice formation.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knitting needles
  • Two colors of yarn
  • Good lighting
  • Supportive chair

    First Half of Lattice Pattern

  1. Step 1

    Knit row 1. With Color B, knit 1 and slip 1 stitch. Then knit 4, slip 2 stitches. Repeat the knit 4, slip 2 pattern until 6 stitches from the end. End with knitting 4, slipping 1 stitch, then knitting 1.

  2. Step 2

    Make row 2. With Color B, purl 1, slip 1 stitch. Then purl 4, slip 2 stitches. Repeat the purl 4, slip 2 pattern until 6 stitches from the end. End with purling 4, slipping 1 stitch, then purling 1.

  3. Step 3

    Stitch row 3. With Color A, Repeat row 1.

  4. Step 4

    Go on to row 4. With Color A, purl 1, slip 1 stitch, then knit 4, slip 2 stitches. Repeat the knit 4, slip 2 pattern until 6 stitches from the end. End with knitting 4, slipping 1 stitch, then purling 1.

  5. Second Half of Lattice Pattern

  6. Step 1

    Construct row 5. With Color B, knit 3, then slip 2 stitches and knit 4. Repeat the slip 2, knit 4 pattern until 6 stitches from the end. End with slipping 2, and knitting 3.

  7. Step 2

    Continue with row 6. With Color B, purl 3, then slip 2 stitches and purl 4. Repeat the slip 2, purl 4 pattern until 5 stitches from the end. End with slipping 2, and purling 3.

  8. Step 3

    Repeat row 5 to complete row 7. Do this with color A.

  9. Step 4

    Finish with row 8. With Color A, purl 1, knit 2, then slip 2 stitches and knit 4. Repeat the slip 2, knit 4 pattern until 5 stitches from the end. End with slipping 2, knitting 2 then purling 1.

Tips & Warnings
  • This pattern is worked on the right side. Be careful not to turn it.
  • Always work a small section of the pattern to check your gauge.
