How to Complete 3D Jigsaw Puzzles

To complete 3D jigsaw puzzles, your experience as a puzzle builder must be at a fairly high level. While a standard table puzzle may take you 5 to 15 minutes to complete, a 3D puzzle may require weeks. Improve your skill level gradually, then work your way slowly into the world of 3D puzzle building. Since a 3D puzzle has three dimensions, you'll have to get used to looking at a graspable object as a puzzle.

Instructions

  1. Select a Puzzle Kit

    • 1

Choose from objects of art, including famous Greek and Roman statues that come to life as 3D jigsaw puzzles.

    • 2

Pique your architectural interest with a 3D puzzle of the Empire State building, the Bank of China or even Dracula's Castle. Buildings make ideal 3D puzzles.

    • 3

Demonstrate your love of cars by beginning your 3D-puzzle-building career with a classic Chevrolet Camaro. Other cars are available to fill out your stable.

    Create a Space

    • 4

Define an area in your home to spend some quality time with your 3D jigsaw puzzle. Numerous hours will be required for the more complex models.

    • 5

Choose a hard, flat surface as your 3D-puzzle-building base of operations. An old, unused table or even a card table will suffice.

    • 6

Make sure your chosen table or flat space will provide enough room for you to complete your puzzle. You should also have ample space to lay out the loose pieces as you go.

    • 7

Complete your 3D puzzle on a counter top if your house is filled with young children. This will be safer in the sense that your puzzle will not be disturbed if someone bumps into it.

    • 8

Avoid working on a carpeted surface.

    Complete Your 3D Jigsaw Puzzle

    • 9

Allow for many hours of assembly. While some of the easier kits can be assembled in a short amount of time, the more complex ones will take days or even weeks.

    • 10

Complete your 3D puzzle with glue if you can't foresee putting it together again and would like to create a sculptural object that you can use as a decoration.

    • 11

Refer to all available instructions and diagrams as frequently as possible. Multiple angles of approach are always necessary when building 3D puzzles, as they are with real buildings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Start small, since some 3D puzzles are amazingly complex. A 3D puzzle of the Notre Dame cathedral, for instance, requires lots of research to design and complete.

  • Some 3D puzzles can be quite expensive. Make sure you purchase a kit within your price range, especially if this is your first 3D puzzle.
