Ponies are one of the most familiar animals, especially for kids, and for centuries artists have attempted to capture them through drawings. Drawing a pony takes only a few minutes. Instructions

-
1
Scan magazines to find a picture of a pony. Alternatively, search online for a picture of a pony and print the one you like.
-
2
Assemble the required drawing materials on a table that has plenty of room and light.
-
-
3
Place the pony picture next to drawing materials. Use the picture as a reference when drawing.
-
4
Look at the picture of the pony. Imagine that it's made up of geometrical figures like circles, rectangles, triangles and lines.
-
5
Draw a small sloping oval resembling head of the pony. Use light strokes. Avoid dark impressions since you may need to erase them later.
-
6
Form base of the pony's neck by drawing a straight line starting from the oval diagonally down to the right.
-
7
Sketch the body by drawing a larger horizontal oval joining the line made in the last step.
-
8
Make two straight lines below the larger oval to represent forelegs and two bent ones for back legs.
-
9
Mark leg joints with small circles. Short sloping lines and small triangles help represent the pony's ankles and hooves.
-
10
Define the neck by joining the two ovals with curved lines. Draw an elongated triangle for the neck.
-
11
Join the neck with upper and lower parts of the body (a horizontal oval) with curved lines.
-
12
Make the drawing clearer by erasing unwanted lines made earlier to form the basic shape.
-
13
Refer to the picture of the pony to draw its eyes, nostril, mouth and ears.
-
14
Add a mane over the neck and a curved thick tail.
-
15
Modify the drawing so it looks similar to the reference picture. Erase extra lines.
-
16
Decide an appropriate color scheme and paint the drawing. Choose earthy colors for a natural look and wax colors for better definition.

This doesn't teach you how to draw a pony. The head should be a circle and the body should be more like a bean. But most importantly, it doesn't describe in detail how to draw the manes, eyes or tails, which are 90% of the work.
