How to Make a Spinning GFX in Gimp

The GIMP software is primarily known for its still-image editing capabilities. This program can also create simple animated graphics effects, however. For example, GIMP includes a script that makes a spinning graphics effect for an image. Use this spinning effect to make a spinning logo for your website, or to create an animation for a screensaver. The GIMP spinning effect uses a Script-Fu script, and allows you to configure the animation's frame rate and the direction of the spinning.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch GIMP and open the image to which you want to add the spinning graphic effect.

    • 2

Click the "Filters" menu, and then hover the mouse over "Animation." Click "Spinning Globe."

    • 3

Type the number of frames that you want to use in the spinning graphic effect into the "Frames" box. The more frames you use, the more slowly and smoothly the image will spin.

    • 4

Check the box next to "Turn from left to right" if you want the graphic to spin from left to right. If you want it to spin from right to left, leave this box unchecked.

    • 5

Click "OK." GIMP creates and renders a spinning animation of the image, and then opens it in a new window.

    • 6

Click "Filters," select "Animation" and click "Playback." Click the "Play" button in the window that opens to watch the spinning graphics effect.
