Instructions

    • 1

Evaluate the damage to your hammock. If a rope is just snagged and bunching, stretch the hammock to reposition the ropes. If just a couple of ropes are broken, knot the broken ends together and even out the rope spacing. You may want to stitch together the hammock if many ropes are broken.

    • 2

Knot the rope to an "X" in the hammock's weave near one end of the hole. This place will serve as an anchor, so select an "X" where neither of the hammock ropes are broken.

    • 3

Loop the rope across the hole and through an unbroken "X" on the opposite side of the hole, knotting it in place on the opposite side. Repeat this looping and knotting from side to side until you completely repair the hole. Pull the rope as tight as possible without causing too much bunching.

    • 4

Knot the rope to another unbroken "X" on the opposite end of the tear once the cut is repaired. Reposition the weave and knots until the hammock's weave looks even.

    • 5

Test the hammock's strength with your hand before gently applying all of your weight to the hammock. If the stitching doesn't seem like it's holding, repeat the process, but weave farther from the hole to incorporate more unbroken ropes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Knotting the broken ends of the ropes will give you the most secure repair.

  • Do not spin or twist the hammock after it is repaired because the ropes are slightly weakened.

  • Use caution when sitting on the hammock after the repair until you are sure the repair is solid enough to hold your weight.
