How to Make Tiny Bows for Cards

Tying a bow is as straightforward as tying your shoelaces, but tying a miniature bow is another story. It is difficult to manipulate a little piece of ribbon with large adult fingers. Instead of tying a bow the traditional way, achieve the same result by folding and gluing the ribbon into a bow shape. This method yields a flat bow, which is beneficial since the bow needs to fit in an envelope with the card.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut grosgrain ribbon into 2-inch and 1-inch pieces. You need one piece of ribbon in each size -- two pieces total -- to make one bow.

    • 2

Hold the 2-inch piece of ribbon. Apply a peppercorn-sized bead of hot glue on one end of the ribbon.

    • 3

Bring the ends of the ribbon together. Overlap the end without glue on top of the glued end to form a loop. Press the ends together so that the hot glue secures the loop.

    • 4

Pinch the loop in the middle to form a bow shape. Position the overlapped, glued spot halfway between the looped ends of the grosgrain, between the fingers pinching the bow together.

    • 5

Slide your fingers off-center to reveal the center of the loop. Apply another bead of hot glue on top of the glued spot.

    • 6

Press one end of a 1-inch piece of ribbon into the glue. The pieces of ribbon should run perpendicular to each other and form a T-shape.

    • 7

Wrap the loose end of ribbon around the bow. Apply another bead of hot glue in the same spot where you affixed the first end of the ribbon. Press the loose end into the glue to secure it.
