Instructions

    • 1

Crochet a chain (ch) of 23 for your foundation row, using your crochet hook and color A. This number will include your starting ch.

    • 2

Double crochet (dc) in the third ch from hook, then dc in the remaining 20 chains. Remember that at the 22nd dc, the skipped chains at the beginning count as your first dc. Ch 1 and turn. This will complete row one.

    • 3

Single crochet (sc) in each dc across, changing to color B. Leave two loops on the hook, then continue with the new color. With a large-eyed needle, you may weave in the tails of both balls of yarn for better security. Ch 2 and turn. (This ch 2 counts as your first dc.) This will complete row two.

    • 4

Dc in next 3 sc, the long front post double crochet (lfpdc) in the fifth dc, two rows below. Skip the next sc on current working row, *dc in next 3 sc, lfpdc in the fourth dc from the previous long front post dc. Dc in the next 3 sc*, repeating from * to * until you have only two sc left. Lfpdc in the fourth dc from the previous lfpdc and dc in the last stitch. Ch 1 and turn. This will complete row three.

    • 5

Sc in top of each stitch across, changing to color A. Ch 2, then turn. This will complete row four.

    • 6

Dc in the next sc, lfpdc in the third dc, two rows below. Skip the next sc on the current working row, *dc in next 3 sc, lfpdc in the fourth dc (count lfpdc as a dc) from previous lfpdc*, repeating from * to * until you have only three sc left. Dc in the last three stitches, ch 1 and turn. This will complete row five.

    • 7

Sc in the top of each stitch across. Change to color B, ch 2 and turn. This will complete row six.

    • 8

Repeat steps four to seven, stopping at the desired length.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your starting ch is based on a multiple of five, plus three (one is your beginning ch).

  • Do not cut your first color when changing to your second.

  • If making a scarf, consider adding edging.
