How to Make a Stamped Penny Keychain

Souvenir penny stamping machines are often found in the lobbies of museums, zoos or parks. For one quarter, you can flatten and stamp a penny with a picture to commemorate your trip. Once you get home, however, the penny often gets lost. Instead of throwing it in a box with other keepsakes, drill a hole in the penny and make a key chain out of it, and preserve your memories for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit an electric drill with a 1.2mm drill bit.

    • 2

Hold the penny firmly in one hand with a pair of flat-nosed pliers. Drill a hole through the penny.

    • 3

Hold one side of the split in a jump ring in one hand with flat-nosed pliers. Place the round-nosed pliers on the other side of the jump ring, and gently twist the ring open.

    • 4

Slide the hole in the penny onto the jump ring; slide another jump ring onto the first jump ring and twist the jump ring closed.

    • 5

Add a few more jump rings to the first two jump rings to create a short chain. Open the last jump ring in the chain and add a large split ring. Close the jump ring.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not try to use the penny as currency once you flatten and drill a hole through it.
