Make a special pen for your favorite school friend.

Scoobies are a way of making decorative knot ropes for embellishment on crafts, or used by themselves as bracelets or key chains. Make a scoobie pen as a gift for that special someone. Obtain some scoobie strings from an art or craft store. It's best to use two different colors to maximize the effect of the intricate scoobie knots. The scoobie pen uses the same knot throughout, so make sure that you have mastered it before attempting your scoobie pen.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie a simple knot with the first scoobie near the nib of the pen. Lay the scoobie string under the pen and keep both sides the same length. Pull the right hand string across the front of the pen.

    • 2

Take the left hand string around the back of the pen, then up the right hand side, through the loop made by the right hand string and off to the right. The right hand string is now on the left side and the left hand string is on the right.

    • 3

Slip the second scoobie string through the back of the first knot. Pull the first knot tight.

    • 4

Repeat the process by adding similar knots. Make a third knot with the string from the first knot to loop them together. Continue to make knots, alternating between the scoobie strings. Keep the knots neat and even.

    • 5

Cover the last knot with super glue to prevent it from coming undone. Clip off any excess scoobie string with the scissors.
