Pointy hats are a fun craft for birthdays.

A pointy hat is headwear, typified by its conical base and pointed top. An example of a pointy hat is the birthday hat commonly worn by children at birthday parties. Pointy hats also come in the shape of dunce caps and wizard hats, to name a few. You can make pointy hats for your child's birthday party, or just for a fun craft during family time.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the circumference of your head with measuring tape. Draw a horizontal line ½-inch longer than the circumference of your head on the craft paper. The extra ½-inch gives you extra room for overlapping the ends when you put your hat together. Draw two lines, one at each end of your horizontal line, to form a triangle.

    • 2

Cut around the edges of your triangle. If you want your pointy hat to have fabric on the outer layer, cut out a piece of fabric to match the dimensions of your paper cutout. Glue the fabric over the paper and wait for it to set completely before continuing to the next step.

    • 3

Wrap the triangle piece around your head and hold the two ends together. Carefully remove the paper hat while still holding the two ends, and staple the two ends together. Put your hat on to make sure the fit is right. If you want to add more color to your hat, add glitter or glue on decorative accessories like ribbon to your hat.
