Craft Activity With Toothpicks

With a little embellishment, toothpicks can make a party tray much more fun.

Because they typically come in a large quantity and can be used in a variety of ways, toothpicks are a staple during craft time. Use them to teach a child shapes or to spice up a boring food tray.

  1. Beaded Cupcake Toppers

    • To create colorful decorations for cupcakes, apply colorful beads or pom-poms to the end of a toothpick and secure them with glue. Allow the glue to dry before sliding the toothpicks into the center of the cupcake.

    Toothpick Cupcake Flags

    • Print a flag or other small design on a piece of printer paper. Cut it out and secure it to the end of the toothpick with tape before inserting it into the cupcake.

    Toothpick Christmas Ornament

    • Insert toothpicks all over a polystyrene ball until it is completely covered. Spray the ornament with silver or gold spray paint. While it is still wet, dust the ornament with glitter, if desired. Tie a ribbon to the ball to hang it on a Christmas tree.

    Spider Toothpicks

    • Cut the spider off of a ring and puncture the belly with a needle. Insert the end of the toothpick into the needle hole and place in assorted food items, such as meatballs or cheese squares.

    Toothpick Shapes

    • Insert a toothpick into a marshmallow. Add more toothpicks and marshmallows as necessary to create shapes, like stars, snowflakes and triangles.
