Poster Design for Children's Festival

Bold Colors

Bold colors can be seen from far away and are very exciting to look at for children and adults. Do not be afraid to use bold colors in your poster design to make the event feel lively and full of fun. Dull or soft colors will not make the same "get up and have fun" statement as would deep, bold and bright colors.
Large, Fun Fonts

Display the name of the children's festival with huge letters in a fun children's font such as Second Grader or Comic Sans MS. Children's fonts add a lot more character to the style of the words than many standard fonts such as Times New Roman or Arial.
Center the title of the children's festival in the middle of the poster and set it across the top or to one side of the poster. Make the title very large. Add a list of the day's highlights beneath the title using a slightly smaller sized font. Add a touch of contrast and interest by changing the font type and the font color of the other information on the poster.

Use images from a previous children's festival or take pictures at a nearby amusement park, zoo, playground or fun center--places that will have some of the features of your children's festival. Edit these pictures by cropping the images; adjusting the contrast, brightness and other filters; and giving the pictures borders or softened edges to blend in with the rest of the poster design.

Accent the colors, fonts and images of your poster with amusing graphics. Give the graphics dimension by adding shadows or making them three dimensional. Balloons, splashing water, bubbles, rainbows, cars, flowers, stripes, swirls, polka dots and confetti are some fun graphics to add to your poster design.

If you are making several posters for your children's event, consider making each one different but similar. Use the same color schemes, fonts and graphics but sort them differently on each poster. One poster may have the event title displayed across the top, and the others may have the words along one side or centered at the middle of the poster. Move the images and graphics around to create different designs until you find one you really love.
