Silicone spray, whether the type that adds shine to your hair or the kind that greases a squeaky door, can leave an oil-based stain on your fabric. The longer this stain sits on the fabric, the more it sets and the more it attracts dirt and grime. While silicone spray stains can be a challenge, you can remove the stains fully using supplies found in your home.
Things You'll Need
- Baking soda
- Rubbing alcohol
- Clean cloth
- Aerosol petroleum-based pre-treatment stain remover
- Heavy duty laundry detergent
Cover the silicone spray stain on your fabric with baking soda. Leave the baking soda on the fabric for at least 20 minutes so it can absorb the grease. Brush off the baking soda and throw it away.
Wet a clean cloth with rubbing alcohol. Sponge the remaining silicone spray stain with the alcohol. The alcohol helps remove remaining oil from the silicone spray.
Spray petroleum-based stain remover on the site of the silicone stain on your fabric. Treating an oil-based stain with a similar substance, such as petroleum, helps remove the stain. Allow the stain remover to remain on the fabric for 10 minutes.
Wash your fabric in the hottest water allowed for the type of fabric. Use heavy duty laundry detergent to wash out your stain-removing solutions, as well as any remaining silicone spray stain.
