Making paper mache boxes can be a great craft project to do at home. It is a suitable craft for both children and adults. You can use your paper mache boxes to decorate your home, package gifts, sell at craft fairs and just about anything you can imagine. To make paper mache boxes, all you need are a few items that you probably already have in your home and a little imagination.

Step 1

Cut the newspaper into multiple strips and set it aside.

Mix one part flour with two parts water in a bowl.

Step 3

Stir the mixture well. The consistency of paper mache is lumpy.

Step 4

Dip a newspaper strip into the flour mixture, saturating it completely.

Step 5

Remove any excess mixture by placing the newspaper strip in between your index finger and thumb and pulling the strip through your fingers.

Step 6

Lay the strip over the outside of a box. Do not put the strip inside the box.

Step 7

Repeat the process until your box is completely covered. Set the box aside to dry completely. The drying time may be anywhere from several hours to overnight.

Step 8

Remove the dry paper mache from the box. Be very gentle so it does not tear. Paint and decorate the paper mache box, as desired.

Tip

To make your paper mache box sturdier, add a second layer of newspaper strips after the first one has dried.
