The main way to transfer songs onto an iPod is with the program iTunes. The portable music device called an iPod uses iTunes to acquire music from a variety of sources. You can buy songs directly from iTunes, but an iPod can also acquire songs from CDs or MP3s you already have on your computer. Use the program to transfer these songs to your iPod.

    Starting

  1. If you don't already have iTunes, download it onto your computer by going to the iTunes website (see "Resources"). The download link will let you save the installation file onto your computer. Open this file and begin the installation process. Once iTunes is ready, any time you put an audio CD into your computer, the software should let you find the titles of the songs automatically. Click to add these songs from the CD to your iTune's library.
  2. Syncing

  3. Once you connect your iPod to your computer for the first time, you'll have to name your iPod. Select the option to automatically sync your music and videos to your iPod every time you connect it. This should load all your songs onto your iPod. If you want to get more, click on the "iTunes Store" text. Scroll through the various selections and click on "Buy Song" to purchase a song you want to add to your iTunes.
  4. Playlists

  5. If your library on iTunes grows large enough that you can't fit it all on your device anymore, choose to add a smaller section of your songs by using play-lists. On the main iTunes screen, click on "iPod" under "Devices" to begin. Under "Sync music" you can hit "playlists" instead of selecting all of your music. This will let you choose one of your playlists to add to your device. The "Apply" button will let you load the new music.
