If you like the look and feel of short hair, but are afraid of a boring hair cut, you simply need to add layers for extra style. Surprisingly, short-layered haircuts are extremely versatile, allowing you to add your own personal style to the cut. If you keep the short layers trimmed regularly, your short-layered hairstyle will prove to be both stylish and easy to maintain.

    Pixie Cut

  1. The pixie cut features very short, choppy layers. The short layers will frame the face and the hair will be cut short around the ears and back of the neck. Bangs are rarely ever worn with a pixie cut. Talk to a professional hair stylist before settling on this type of cut; she will be able to tell you if a pixie cut will work well with your face shape and facial features. Your face will certainly be the focus with the pixie hair style, so it is essential that you are comfortable with your skin and features.

Although it seems quite straightforward, the pixie cut is actually quite versatile. Choose the style that best matches your mood, outfit or occasion. Use a straightening spray to keep the layers smooth for a proper, casual look. Or you can add edge to your style by spiking up the ends; just apply some texturizing balm with your hands and pull the hair up vertically. Certain celebrities have even been known to style their pixie cuts after styles seen on men. Part the hair on the side, and slick it over using a bit of gel. Although the pixie cut is extremely simple, it allows for several different style options.
  2. Bob

  3. Short bobs are a very versatile cut, as they can be easily customized to your personal style. The typical bob will feature subtle layers at the back of the head, with the longest layers falling just below your chin. For an angled bob, the hair will fall just below your chin in the front, and angle back to a much shorter length in the back. Again, this can easily be customized to your needs. Some people prefer to angle back to very short layers in the back, while others prefer to keep the angle much more subtle.

Styling a bob is extremely easy. For a casual look, just apply a few sprays of volumizing mist to damp hair, then air or blow dry. If you want to add style, curl the ends under or add soft curls around the head. For an edgier look, apply a small amount of texturizing wax to the ends, spiking them slightly with your fingers. Bangs can easily be added to a bob cut, and you can use a variety of accessories to play with your style.
  4. Shag Style

  5. A shag cut will add instant volume and depth to straight or wavy hair. Your longest layers will be in the back, at the base of the crown. Layers should be very choppy, creating a shaggy appearance. Shaggy, uneven bangs also look great with this style, but keep them long so they can be easily tucked behind the ear if necessary. The shag is a great cut for women who prefer short hair, but don't like the sleek look of the bob. Styling the shag cut is quite easy, since it is supposed to look messy. Spray a texturizing mist or a bit of hair spray into damp hair and let it air dry. use your fingers to tousle the layers, keeping them choppy and messy.
