I am Dr. Dicie Nathani with Holistic Vitality Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. I would like to share information about relieving osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis can be relieved from using physical therapy modalities, chiropractic care and massage therapy. The important thing to remember is that muscles will spasm in protection when a joint is inflamed. So, massage therapy can help to relax those spasm muscles and some of the muscular compensation patterns that result from pain. Generally, a person will alter the way that they walk when they have arthritis at the lower back. And so, some of the muscles in the lower back will be tied and restricted. We generally apply massage therapy in this case. Joint manipulation is great to stretch the joint capsule to relieve compression on the nerve and to restore motion to the joint so that it is not stiff and immobile. The next important component is therapeutic exercise so that you stretch the patient, creating flexibility in tight muscles and also strengthening those muscles that have become weak from disuse. That was some basic information, but find a practitioner that will offer you preventative health care by addressing your bio-mechanics, your lifestyle and diet.
