Hi, this is Jason Morgan with Muscleworx Fitness in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Today we are going to discuss the proper way for guys to gain weight. Guys you know we all want to have the super hero body. We all want to be muscular and look like Superman or maybe Incredible Hulk. None of us want to be the 90 pound weakling in the Charles Atlas ads. We all want to be Charles Atlas. So the proper way to do that is by gaining muscular weight. None of us want to walk around with excessive fat. We don't want to gain fat weight. So in order to gain weight properly what we want to do is put in a sound nutritional program. A sound nutritional program is going to utilize three things. It's going to utilize protein, starchy carbohydrates and fibrous carbohydrates as a base for any meal that we eat. So, each time we sit down we want to structure our plate to have a lean protein source, a starchy carbohydrate source. Being a brown rice or an oatmeal. Something that's a whole grain source. And then we are going to add fibrous carbohydrates such as broccoli, asparagus, green beans to the mix. That's going to give us a good macro nutrient profile. You'll get enough dietary fat from your lean proteins generally. You may want to supplement with some fish oils just to make sure you are getting your essential fatty acids. And you can control the amount of weight that you gain by increasing your calories in small increments. We want to start off by increasing our calories, maybe 200, 250 calories a day. If you are adding a pound to a pound and a half body weight per week and you are not adding fat then you are gaining weight properly. If you find that your adding more weight then that then the likelihood is you are gaining fat and you need to reduce your caloric intake. Please remember these tips are just to provide basic information. Always consult with your health care provider and a fitness consultant before beginning any diet or exercise program.
