Hi I'm Charlotte Lawson, a registered and licensed dietitian here in Tampa Bay, Florida, and you might have seen the Acai berry pills and are wondering how you can lose weight by adding these to your diet or lifestyle. Well, the Acai berry has an excellent form of nutrients as far as antioxidants and a high fiber content but in the pill form you're maybe not necessarily utilizing all these benefits and also keep in mind, any weight loss program really involves a healthy diet plus an exercise program as there is no easy pill or magic food to help you get to that goal. Now again, Acai in general hasn't been proven to have a lot of health benefits. Like I mentioned the fiber and the antioxidants. Antioxidants are great for our immune system as they help to remove some of those free radicals that can increase our risk for chronic disease and that high fiber actually helps with weight loss in the matter of that our bodies don't digest it so we stay fuller longer and often intake less calories because we're less likely to snack on sweet things or excuse me sweet or salty, sugary non-nutritive foods. So again, that fiber just keeps us full. Now the berry is just one form of these excellent sources of antioxidants and fiber. So again that moderation and well rounded diet really is key. Look at whole grains, your whole fruits and vegetables, your low fat dairy and your lean meats and ultimately you want to have less calories in and more calories out. So, a good workout plan is an excellent backup to that healthy diet. I'm Charlotte, and eat happy.
