Hi, I'm Amy Newman, fitness expert and creator of The Perfect 10 Workout. The most important thing that you can do in your Pilates workout is to breathe correctly, and what you want to do is flow with your breathing just like you're flowing with your movements, deep breathing, inhaling to a count of five and exhaling to a count of five. As you inhale, expanding, as you exhale, squeeze. I'll show you an exercise that will help you do it right. Exhale, inhale expand, exhale round out squeeze, pull through, inhale, lift, exhale round out. Never shutting off your breath or stopping your movement. Your breathing should just be as fluid as your motions. You can move to another move, exhale, exhale, exhale as you twist, exhale as you exert, bringing an arm back, the other arm forward. Breathing, doing about ten on each side. Then turn into twisting, exhaling, exhale, never holding your breath, keeping it flowing the whole time. Keep your mouth open just a little bit so you remember to breathe and think about your breathing more than anything else. Squeeze while you breathe. As you exhale, squeeze, squeeze, then lean back, squeeze, exhale. Then come up and inhale, arch it out, shoulders down, neck long, open up the rib cage, arch inhale, exhale round out, arch inhale, exhale round out. And those are some breathing techniques that you can use doing Pilates.
