Hi my name is D.C. Knight, general manager and pro shop operator of Cardinal Lanes Beach Bowl in Wilmington, North Carolina. We are here today to talk about what weight bowling ball to use. There's several different weights in bowling balls. The lightest weight is a six pound, the heaviest weight is a sixteen pound. Most people think it is beneficial to throw the heaviest thing possible, and that is not necessarily true. Most professionals these days are using fourteen pound and fifteen pound. It is not as much torque and weight on the hand as you're bowling, especially if you are bowling a large number of games. What people recommend is that you use ten percent of your body weight. So little kids most of the time are only going to use six pounds, and as you get older, and get bigger the weight of the ball will increase also. The heaviest ball does not necessarily mean you are going to knock down the most amount of pins. So again what we suggest is ten percent of your body weight, and you can get no more than a sixteen pound ball. In summary that is what weight of bowling ball you should use.
