"Hi, my name is Bill Rae. I'm with Alumni Financial Services out of Seminole Florida. I've been in the business of the finance world for well over thirty years. Today we're going to talk about certified financial planners. What is a certified financial planner? In today's environment, certified financial planning means that someone who is licensed, generally in the insurance or in the securities business, has taken some type of advanced training and has perhaps a better understanding of how my money flows. Word of caution, just because someone has gone to school and has a degree or numbers or letters next to their name doesn't mean they have a full comprehension of how money flows and how money really works in the United States today. More importantly, it doesn't tell you anything about their ethical background. So when most people hear certified financial planner, they think that that person obviously has a high degree of integrity and a high degree of knowledge. In most cases this is true, but isn't always. Many many times I've run into people who don't have certified financial planning degrees, yet have a better understanding of those who do because they've been out there in the real world, and they've been working with clients for many many years. So don't be fooled by a title. Take a look behind it. Do they understand what it is they went to school to learn? Do they understand how it impacts you? And when it comes down to planning and insurances and retirement plans and everything else, really the bottom line is... is the person you're talking to more concerned about you and what you want to accomplish and how you're going to get it done, or are they more concerned with how they're going to get their goals done? That's my advice to you. My name is Bill Rae. I'm with Alumni Financial Services, and as always we're helping you build true wealth."
