"Hi, my name is Rebecca and I'm going to talk about how to make your own sewing patterns. The easiest way to start making your own sewing patterns is to go off of clothes that you own and that fit you. So for example, a simple A-line skirt like this one, the waist is already set at your waist, so you measure across the waist and notice that it has a slight curve, so you could trace around the skirt and you would pretty much end up with a skirt exactly like this one. Make sure when you make your pattern piece you've traced around it, now you need to go in and add I like a half an inch seam allowance because it's less complicated but, you want to go around and add a seam allowance to your pattern. Trousers are the same way, it's difficult to find a pair of trousers that fit well. So when making a pair of trousers basically you're going to have four panels, two front and two back that you're going to be fitting. So you can pretty much lay it out and get the shape of it, by just laying it out and tracing around it. You can buy pattern paper that is made specifically for tracing patterns on or you could improvise. Personally I use newspaper because I tend to have a lot of it lying around."
