Video Transcript

"Hi, my name is Stacie Royer, and I'm a Career Specialist from Austin, Texas. I'm going to talk to you today about becoming a wedding planner. The first thing that you'll need to know about yourself is that you're creative and very organized. You'll have to prepare budgets and processes, and you'll need those organizational skills whenever it comes time to preparing those. You'll also want to start sitting in event planning profession online, or maybe even talking to local, other event planners. You can also start planning your friends and families weddings to try to obtain the knowledge and the skill set that you might need for this. You'll also want to start volunteering at bridal shops, and maybe even trying to get on as an employee there, to get the knowledge that you'll need and start working with other vendors, such as catering companies, facilities, floral shops and craft stores. You might also consider obtaining some type of certification online as a wedding planner as well, or an event planner. From that point you'll want to create a portfolio and start networking."
