"Training your dog to pick up a toy is very much fun. What you want to do is get your dog very interested in the toy and then you want to be prepared to tell your dog that picking up the toy is what you want them to do. So if you work, she's pulling rather hard, "drop it", "good". If you have a working relationship with a clicker it's a very fast and easy way to teach them to pick the toy up. Initially you would get them interested in the toy, make sure they see it, you would drop it on the ground, and click touching it. In lady's case Lady is very use to this activity so she's jumping right to picking the toy up, which then is what we're going to reinforce. "Good girl". As you work you can even get to the point where you can name individual toys and have your dog go find them or pick them up for you. This is a great activity for you to do that helps your dog work their mind."
