"Hell, this is Matthew Burbank. Hello, I'm Matthew Burbank, I'm an Associate Professor at the University of Utah and I'd like to talk to you a little bit about how to become a U.S. Senator. The qualifications for being a U.S. Senator are determined by the U.S. Constitution and essentially you can, you can look in the Constitution and find out what those qualifications are, and what you would need to do then, to become a Senator is to get yourself elected to the Senate from a state. So, each state has two Senators and generally these kinds of elections are highly competitive because there are only two Senators from a given state and so as you can imagine, states like California or New York, there are great, many well qualified people, and yet only two Senators to represent that state. So, again we have a circumstance where the kinds of elections for Senator are going to be very highly competitive. So, generally what you need to be to become a Senator is to have a strong political track record and to be able to have support within a political party, and get yourself elected Senator and then you can end up in the U.S. Senate."
