Series Summary

Origami, a form of visual representation defined by the folding of paper, originated in Japan in the 1600s. Since then, this ancient art has become a popular hobby for many around the globe. Origami has been popular in the United States and England since the early 1900s, but did you know that the first published origami book, 'Hiden Senbazuru Orikata' (which translated to English means 'Secret of 1,000 Cranes Origami'), was published in 1797? Origami is regarded as a complicated and delicate art form, and in this free video series, a graphic design artist will demonstrate how to use origami to fold pieces of paper into unique pieces of art. Some of the patterns and designs include paper drinking cups, hearts, penguins, dragons and flying birds, among others. With these origami folding instructions, a simple sheet of paper can quickly transform into a work of fine art.

"So, you have a piece of paper, but no cup and you're really thirsty. So, I'm going to tell you how to take this piece of paper, and turn it into a cup. My name is Robert Segundo, and here we go. First we're going to take our piece of paper here, and we're going to fold it into a triangle shape, lets do this side. This is going to be our pretty baby blue drinking cup. And now we're going take, and we're going to take the corner here, and we're going to fold it to the middle, like so. Actually you know what, we'll take it over further, we'll take it to right here, there we go. Then we're going to take this point, we're going to bring it back over here, to this point. We're just going to kind of take this and wrap this corner around right here. And now you have your open section here. What we're going to do is, we're going to take this, kind of fold it down, like so. Just kind of open this up and force it out a little bit. There you go. And now you're down at your party, and your boys can fill you up some gin and juice here. My name is Robert Segundo, and enjoy your paper cup."
