"The next type of binding I am going to be talking to you about is what is known as a step in binding and these bindings were really popular in the mid to late 1990's but have kind of become obsolete and faded away because they are not very functional. What it is is the boots have prongs on either side to them and these prongs are supposed to be forced into the binding and I mean the way that they started off was just a little plate that you put over the factory mounted holes that had clips on either side that you put the prongs into and they have a little latch right here to let you up. And again ice usually gets into these areas here but as time went on they did add a high back to them much like a traditional binding but again the prongs had a tough time getting in there and I mean the only other downside from the ice getting in and not allowing you to enter and exit freely is you don't have anything supporting you on your toeside edge with this type of binding."
