"Hi, this is John Stewart and this is how to tie a Taut Line Hitch. A Taut Line Hitch knot is going to be used for tensioning things. You see it a lot when people who have big tent, tents, big canopies and stuff like that. It also, this knot is going to incorporate the Two Half Hitch and further into the Taut Line Hitch. To tie the Taut Line Hitch, you're going to take and come around whatever you're going, most of the time a stake, a tree, or an anchor point that's built into the ground. Something that's permanent there, that's going to stay so that you can put a lot of tension on it. Okay, this knot's very similar to a Two Half Hitch. Okay, you want to take, cross them, come with your tag end, up through the loop you made. Come up through there once, and then you're going to come up there a second time. Okay, so you have two loops on the inside of your main loop. All right, then you're going to take two ends, cross them again, and come up through the center of that. Tighten that down. Tighten this knot really well, and then as you can see you can pull on it, and it doesn't slip unlike the Two Half Hitch. And that's how you tie a Taut Line Hitch."
