"What we'll do for a finishing touch in this bowl is we will use a walnut oil finish. This is not the type of walnut oil, this particular walnut finish isn't the type of oil you'd pick up at your grocery store. It's been a heat treated type walnut oil so that it will dry to a hard food safe finish. You can use just about any type but the reason I like to use this particular finish is that I can do it on the lathe. The first thing I like to do is take a soft cotton rag and just goop on a bunch of the finish and rub it around the inside of the bowl. You can so the same with the outside just make sure you've got all your areas covered and then the nice thing with this finish at this point is you add more on the rag and then turn your lathe on, stand to one side so that you don't get any spray off of it and then add the rag to the bowl. You can start seeing at this point that the finish will start glowing or you'll get a gloss off the finish and you can pretty much do the finish right on the lathe itself. You can see a nice satiny gloss, very smooth finish and then you can basically continue this process to the outside of the bowl and then you're finished."
