"Hi, I'm Donna Barnes, life and relationship coach here in New York City and the author of It's All About You. To overcome the depression after a breakup is really up to you. You really can decide that you're OK and that you're not going to let this get you down anymore, and really take the initiative to take care of yourself. You really do create your emotions with your thoughts. So allow yourself to have that little time but don't feel sorry for yourself, don't get stuck in oh I want them back, I'm depressed, you'll keep yourself in that mode. Look for new exciting things to do that you've never tried before. Something that maybe you wanted to do, sign up for a new class, try to make new friends, really the further away you can get from the life that you had with that person, the less depressed you're going to feel. And don't spend hours and hours sitting at home watching TV, reading through the old letters or e-mails or texts or whatever it is, get rid of everything that reminds you of them and set your sights on creating a new life for yourself. This should be an exciting time for you. After a breakup it's a great time to reevaluate and look at what you can do differently and really be good to yourself. So decide that you're happy and you will be."
