Hello my name is Rebecca Herrick. I'm an infant massage instructor in Wilmington, North Carolina and basically I am here to tell you about how to give an infant massage. Whenever a practitioner gives an infant massage it is usually in the way of instructing the parents or the care givers how to massage their baby. That way it can be done on a daily basis at a scheduled time and the baby can really benefit daily from the benefits but in teaching the parents how to give an infant massage you go through a whole body sequence, you start at the legs. There are various techniques such as increasing circulation to the heart for the legs and then you move in to the belly and there are certain techniques that you use for the belly to help increase digestion, eliminate gas and colic and basically improve digestive functioning. One example of that is the I Love You sequence where you work backwards on the colon and then you basically just stroke down for the I, an upside down L and then an upside down U to finish off that sequence and then basically you just work through the whole body ending on the back. You help to open up the arms and the chest and help increase circulation of limbs and fluids. It is very beneficial to the baby. Those are just some examples of how to give an infant massage.
