Men and women have been coloring their hair since the beginning of time using chemicals, plants and pigments. In recent times, men and women dye their hair a variety of colors including everything from blonde to blue. Hair dye is made up of pigments (color) or bleaches. Depending on whether you are adding color to your hair or taking color away, the process of dying your hair can be lengthy and sometimes painful. Highlights and lowlights are accent colors that are added to specific sections of hair, as opposed to an “all-over” color that is applied to all the hair on the head.

"Hi, I'm Amelia on behalf of expertvillage.com I'll be talking about highlighting at home. When highlighting at home there is a couple of things you need to consider. One the length of your hair if your hair is short this length or I would say if it's fit about 1 1/2-2" or shorter you're going to want to use a cap. This is the good old cap and I'm sure we all seen this and experience this. If it's longer than that then you are going to want to use either a brush to paint it in or my favorite a mascara wand. These things work great for painting and highlights cause you can put them exactly where you want them to be so take into considerations your length. Then you also want to take into consideration what you want to do, do you want to be blonde, do you want to see red, do you want to add tone, color so once you figure out that then you can go to the store and choose your weapon."
