"As far as size goes with the Box Turtles, it varies depending on the type of Box Turtle you get. The Eastern Box Turtle will get four and a half to five inches and the measurements are taken across the shell here. And this, side to side, not front to back. That's how they measure the size of a turtle. Now the record for an Eastern Box Turtle is seven inches and thirteenth, thirteen sixteenths of an inch. Which is quite large for a Eastern turtle. Now the Three Toed Turtle gets to be around four and a half to six inches, the record being six and a half inches. The Ornate Turtle gets around four and a half, maybe five up to five and three quarters. Now, the five and three quarters is the largest recorded size for an Ornate. Ornates tend to be the smaller variety of Box Turtle you can find. The Gulf Coast Box Turtle is the largest species that you'll run across in the reptile trade. That species gets to be generally five to seven inches, the record being eight and a half inches."
