"Okay I've finished laying out my first layer of wool and I've got it as even as I can get it. My edges are fairly smooth and I've made it much, I've made it about 20% wider and 20% longer than I want my finished scarf. Because the whole thing is going to shrink as we proceed so it looks really wide now but you'll see when we get done it's not going to end up this wide. The second layer I'm going to show you, and you can do your first layer this way too if you can only find robing. What I'm going to do is I'm going to pull off, that's got a pointy end on it so I'm not going to use that. I've got a wispy end of my robing here. I'm going to grasp it with my heel of my hand and my fingers and pull off just a thin wispy layer, one staple length essentially and I'm going to lay it out on my scarf. And I'm just going to arrange all my wool in rows in kind of a shingle pattern overlapping a little bit between each shingle to get a nice even smooth row, layer of wool. So the smoother and fluffier you can make this the better. If you pull off strings like this you're not going to get as nice and smooth a layer so the heel of the hand is really the easiest way to get this done. If you find that it's not pulling out? It's because you're grabbing too close up here and trying to put and holding on to both ends of the same piece of fiber. So make sure when you're pulling these off you hold it far enough back and loosely enough that you can pull it away easily without really tugging hard. Just keep on laying these out until you get your second layer completely done."
