"Next I'm going to show you a dead lift using dumbbells. You can also do this exercise using a straight bar if you like. But the function of this particular exercise is to keep the weight nice and slow. This is just for lower back maintenance. Starting position is your feet are going to be a little more than a shoulder width apart, not much. But make sure that they are square, pointing straight ahead. Once again, there's a bend in my knees, my back is perfectly straight and I'm going to keep my neck neutral with my spine. Then hold this weight right out in front. And a slow controlled movement whenever your lower back or your hamstrings are involved you want to make sure that this movement is slow and controlled. So you want to come on down, want to hold that. Pull up through your lower back, and straighten it out. Again, come on down, straighten it out. Try not to keep your head up. That's a no no, too much stress on your spine. Again, head down. Notice I am not bending at the knees. Coming up, keep my knees bent. I am bending at the waist holding and coming up. Couple more. Again, this is for maintenance so we're using very very light weights, slow and controlled movements, one more. There you go. That's your dumbbell dead lift."
