"Hi, my name's Elissa with ExpertVillage.com and today I'm going to show you how to crochet a scarf. Now that you know how to make a slip knot and how to hold your yarn properly I'm going to show you the most fundamental stitch in crochet and that's going to be the chain stitch. And what you want to do after you've got a good grip on your yarn is loop the crochet hook in front of your yarn and then behind it so it hooks on, twist it over and pull it through your first loop and that's the first chain stitch. Then you want to move your fingers up so you get another good grip and do a second chain stitch. The hook goes in front of the yarn, behind the yarn, and pull it through and there's stitch number two. And, you want to continue on until you get to the number of stitches you need for whatever project your working on. And for a scarf you want to go about twelve or fifteen stitches deep so just continue doing that and make sure each stitch is very even. And, once you master this you can crochet anything, it's the most fundamental stitch for a crochet project. So this is the chain stitch."
