"DR. CHRIS MANGO: Hi. This is Dr. Chris Mango here in New York City. On behalf of Expert Village, we're going to be taking a look at trigger points today. We have major muscle groups throughout our body whether it's in our shoulder muscle, lower extremity, neck, low back. Each one of these muscle groups is responsible obviously for the movement of a particular section of the body. Now what happens is, throughout time, we get dysfunction in an area. An area doesn't work as properly, the muscle gets tight, it gets--the muscle gets tight and taut. Now what happens is we have to work this out whether it's through massage therapy, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, any sort of therapy, but today we're going to be looking at trigger point therapy, which is when you isolate a specific area of a muscle to allow it to relax, to allow it to work. Now the other part of the trigger point therapy is when a muscle isn't working, it can cause a lot of pain. And muscle pain, whether it may not be so serious, it can be some of the most painful stuff you feel. And as we're going to see today, little tiny muscles that are in different areas of the body can cause pain that is located in a completely different area of your body. And I'm going to show you how those muscles refer their pain into different areas and how to treat them. Come back and we're going to take a look at some more muscles in the lower extremities."
