"Hi, I'm Austin McBride with Expert Village. Today I'm going to show you how to play some experimental jazz music here on the piano. Experimental jazz is certainly the least of any of the forms of jazz. It's the least popular, should I say. You don't hear anything like this typically on the radio, you don't hear things that are influenced by this on the radio. It's unconventional in every way and because of its' unconventional nature, a lot of people find it to be very beautiful. You rarely hear experimental jazz music played on a single instrument. You won't hear a piano on its' own usually when you're playing or hearing experimental jazz, but, at any rate, I'll show you how to play the piano's part of experimental jazz because it often does play a very large and a crucial part. So, anyway, experimental jazz is often called "free jazz" because you're free to do whatever the hell you want to do. So, in an example here, we'll just start in whatever kind of timing or whatever kind of idea comes to me as I start playing. So really it's basically just playing jazz music as though a little kid would play. And that was experimental jazz!"

on 11/23/2009 Adi- Pretty sure he was throwing out some sarcasm there. I'm pretty sure he wasn't serious.

on 6/29/2009 i won't bother commenting on the video, as Austin McBride's existence has proven to be worthless based on his other jazz, breakdancing, and golf videos, but i DO have something to say to rushdie1.
rushdie1,
i dont know if you made that comment strictly to invoke a debate, but your obsessively idiotic conclusions are baseless, empty of any truth, and slightly pathetic. i think you fail to realize that more and more people are seeing the truth in atheism and straying away from the mindless waste of intellectual potential that is religion. call me satanic or anti-christian, and i will wear the badge proudly. it is the badge of reality.
please dont ever share your views again.

on 4/4/2009 I thank you for this instructional video linkage to Mr. Austin McBride's lesson on Experimental Jazz. It helped me increase my syntactical capabilities, understand the cultural placement of this music, and further yet, realize that probably the people that play this kind of music aren't very sophisticated, because they "play whatever the hell they want", or "as little children".
However, as an orthodox Christian, I'm very confused by this swearing beast of a man (he cusses twice in this video! Unbelievable!). He both ridicules freedom (I believe Jesus said "the truth will set you FREE"...he seemed to imply that was a good thing) and little children (Jesus also said that we were to "Let the little children come to me . You must become like one of these to enter the kingdom of heaven). Obviously Mr. McBride is apparently Anti-Christian! This is disturbing. However, America (very Christian, I know) has spoken. Mr. McBride's video was rated very low! No doubt a religious objection.

on 3/24/2009 I agree, this is a total farce. The only bummer if you take it down is that all of us, who actually studied and make our livings playing music as MUSICIANS, will have less to laugh at. Come on Austin, are you sure you aren't a North Texas grad who can ACTUALLY play that isn't acting out his leftover tensions from being at a school for too long?

on 3/21/2009 Okay: I signed up just to comment on how horrible this video is. It truly does not belong on a site that claims to give correct information.
Everything about this video is an insult to experimental jazz. "It's basically playing jazz music as though a little kid would play." Not really the point that he can't even speak correctly... the point is that attitude, and that ignorance -- no surprise that what he comes up with is some utter nonsense on the keys.
Please, if any moderator is reading this: this does not belong on this site. It is the opposite of "expert" in essentially every way.
